Millgate Winchester

Since establishing Millgate over 20 years ago, our determination has been to build homes to the highest standards of design and construction.

Our new homes have become synonymous with these values and Adrian and I are tremendously proud of every new house that we build, each of which reflect the team’s meticulous attention to detail.

Looking to the future we will be unveiling more very exciting new sites, each of which will continue our philosophy of building small groups of properties in premier locations in Winchester and the surrounding area.

Winchester College

Founded in 1382 as a boys boarding school, Winchester College has the longest continuous history of any English school.

A PHILANTHROPIC FOUNDING FATHER
Winchester College was founded by William of Wykeham (1324-1404), who rose from unexceptional social origins to become Bishop of Winchester and Chancellor of England. Wykeham owed his education to one or more wealthy Hampshire patrons; his abilities as an architect and builder attracted him to increasingly powerful employers, including, finally, the King. Wykeham’s political and ecclesiastical careers were equally spectacular. As Lord Chancellor he occupied the highest political office in the land. “Everything was done by him,” remarked a contemporary historian, “and nothing was done without him”. As Bishop of Winchester, he occupied the richest seat in the land.

RELEVANCE TODAY
Those who work and live at both of Wykeham’s educational foundations are uniquely fortunate in their ability to inhabit beautiful and historic surroundings in which the highest standards of education have endured for over six hundred years. They are the proud inheritors of a formidable legacy, both educational and philanthropic.

Ethical Activities

Ethical Activities is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company Social Enterprise, based around three principles, Safe, Fun, Learning.

Founded by the two directors who met on the River Themes and later lived and worked together at an activity centre in the New Forest, they set out to do business differently.

They realised that the outdoors isn’t free for everyone, and many people face barriers to access it, so they created Ethical Activities CIC.

With Tom in the New Forest and Stu in Devon, they drive to deliver Safe, Fun, Learning Experiences, Instructor Training, Technical Advise and Organisational Operational Guidance, as well as making access to these activities and courses, achievable for people that need it.

They run some highly successful programmes, such as Carvers Kayak Club in the New Forest, a local kayak club in partnership with the local community centre for young people, which is free to access. The main objective is to reduce antisocial behaviour, engage young people with the outdoors positively, and help build a community of young people to develop the local area. This has been hugely successful and continues to grow every year.
